Lawsuits
ruin peoples' financial and personal lives everyday while at the same
time lining the pockets of those who exploit their power. While it's
true lawsuits have their appropriate uses, too many are nothing more
than get-rich-quick "witch hunt" strategies. Any prudent individual who
wishes to avoid the risk of losing much or all of what they own must be
proactive in protecting their valuable assets. Each year 90 million
lawsuits are filed in America. 1/3 are civil cases. Some experts
estimate that 1 in 4 adults will be sued this year.
Consider these real
life examples:
In
one well-known lawsuit, a 92-year-old grandmother nearly lost her home
after a jury awarded a $95,000 verdict against her. What
terrible
wrong did she commit? She "negligently entrusted" a loan to
her
great-nephew to buy a car that was later involved in an accident.
One
recently retired military seargant came home form the second day at his
new post-retirement job to find two pieces of paper taped to his front
door reading "Notice of Public Auction: This home will be sold to the
highest bidder on March 23 at the steps of the County Courthouse." Why?
Because he helped his son-in-law get a business loan by cosigning for
him on the application two years earlier. The business had failed.
To assume you are not at risk is nieve
and irrational thought.
